ALIMARKET CHOOSES XTENT FOR PUBLISHING ITS MAGAZINES
Alimarket Publications has chosen XTENT as the editorial tool for planning, editing, and publishing its magazines: Alimarket, HostelMarket, Electrodomésticos, Construcción, y Alimarket Gestión. Alimarket Publications has more than 100 employees (60 of whom are journalists), and specialises in financial and market information on a variety of sectors and individual companies. By purchasing XTENT PLUS, Alimarket aims to: reduce publishing time and costs, by controlling the editorial information and work flow; increase the number of publications without increasing plant or personnel; and lastly, optimise its content by re-using it in digital publications.
Alimarket has chosen this particular solution because of XTENT has functions specific to magazines – support for multi-page articles, generation of the flat plan with space reserved for advertising, and layout assignation by drag & drop being only a few examples. Another strong point is XTENT’s JAVA technology, which provides multiplatform support. This gives Internet browser access to the publishing system from any system, allowing the 60 journalists’ terminals and the layout artists’ MAC-based workstations to be re-used. Since there has been no need to invest in new hardware for client workstations, this has meant considerable savings.
XTENT provides a unified repository in which the content is stored in XML format (or any multimedia format), with access control, approvals and version control, as well as an XML editor and a powerful connector to Indesign. Without having to depend on the layout artist, the writers can see immediately how their articles fit into the layout, in real time. Several journalists or editors can simultaneously access the same page, each working on a different article. SEINET will also develop a specific adaptation to allow Alimarket to use its present database, Postgress, with XTENT.
